About Our School

Program Objectives
The school was founded in 2003, to allow individuals to be trained in the profession and perform all of the services that are approved by the Department of Education in our curriculum. Our students train to become competent and licensable barber operators. We prepare our students for the state barber practical examination. We also assist our students to obtain apprentice licensure which allows them to work legally in New York while they prepare for the state exam. The preparation for the exam and the results can take several months after completion of school. Upon attaining an apprentice license or after passing barber practical examination, we assist our students with job placement. Job placement is not guaranteed.

Mission Statement
The initial Mission of the ABI School of Barbering of Tribeca, when it began, was to provide a program of instruction to prepare students to meet all the requirements necessary to become licensable barber operators, and prepare them for a lifetime career in barbering. Our goal is to help each student realize his or her own highest potential. Our 288 hour barbering program can be completed in 10 weeks.

Faculty Qualifications
Svetlana Aronova is the director of the school, and a state licensed cosmetologist and instructor as well as a state licensed Master Barber and instructor. Dave Ayeoribe is a state licensed Master Barber and instructor.
Both instructors have years of experience as licensed operators. Teaching faculty members maintain current N.Y. State Teachers Licenses.

Facilities & Equipment
There is large open practical area where students learn and practice. In this area students perform services on the public. The remaining space is used for a class-room, handicap bath, administrative and private offices (to interview and advise students). The Clinic area is furnished with many work stations and it resembles a unisex hair salon. The space and equipment are used to practice on actual clients, mannequins and balloons. The clinical area is used for the teaching of theory through the instructor’s demonstration of practical techniques and from diagramming from textbooks on barbering.
ABI is approved for 33 work stations in its three classrooms.
